In 1983 Art DeMello began a career in Jewelry at the age of 23. Not Finding any Teaching Jobs in Massachusetts
due to the Proposition 2 1/2 Tax Cut Art worked as a shipper and packager for Ro-An Jewelers in Taunton, MA. As he learned
the business he later was promoted to Jewelry Store Salesman and on to Jewelry Store Manager. By 1986 Art needed to grow and
accepted a position with The Westhall Co. and realized Corporate Retailing just wasn't for him. Art then upon completion of
his GIA Courses Accepted a position of Gemologist Appraiser with Hyannis Jewelry Shop of Hyannis Massachusetts and learned
more. Working under Gemologist Eugene Munn and Store Owner David Hirsch Art learned appraising High End Jewelry including:
Concord, Tiffany, Oscar Heyman, Kurt Wayne and others. Also in 1986 Art got a taste of how The American Gem Society did things
attending the 1986 AGS Conclave in Boston Massachusetts Art was able to study with Eric Freedman President of AGS and many
others conducting seminars in all aspects from Color Grading Emeralds to Gem Testing and Identification. By 1988 - 1989 Hyannis
Jewelry Shop had to close and Art was without work. Many of The Corporate Jewelers Required Independent Appraisal Service
but mandated that the Graduate Gemologist (GIA) be an Independent Appraiser thus was born A. DeMello Gemological Laboratory
servicing Corporate and Independent Jewelers in The Northeast. In 1995 National Gemological Laboratory was formed through
its Parent Co. A.DeMello Gemological Laboratory of New Bedford, Massachusetts by founder Arthur DeMello Jr. to service not
only the local private consumer clients but to attract clients stateside as well as internationally in need of fine reliable
gemological testing and Independent Diamond & Jewelry Appraisal. It was Important to include Banks, Insurance Companies
Adjusters and Import & Wholesale Diamond Vendors from Boston, New York City and other areas as well. In January 2006 The
Company was Renamed to A.DeMello Gemological National Laboratory to Avoid Confusion with an Internet Servicing Company of
no Relationship Named NGL National Gemological Laboratory Inc.of New York, NY.
